A name given to the monks of Āḷavī, whose over-zealous building activities and tree-felling once so provoked a tree-spirit and the local populace that the Buddha had to restrain them and teach the Uraga Sutta.

දඩයම් කරමින් සිටියදී, මිනිසුන් අනුභව කරන යක්ෂයෙකු වාසය කරන නුග ගසක සෙවණට වැරදීමකින් පිවිසි ආළවි රජු, නිතිපතා පුරුෂ ගොදුරක් හා ආහාර පිඟානක් යක්ෂයාට සැපයීමට පොරොන්දු වීමෙන් පමණක් නිදහස ලබාගත්තේය.

The king of Āḷavi who, while hunting, strayed into the shadow of a banyan tree inhabited by a man-eating yakkha and secured his release only by promising to supply the spirit with a human victim and a bowl of food at regular intervals.
