王宮の庭園に水やりを任された猿の王が、根を確かめるために木を引き抜いてから水をやるよう命じた話で、知恵を伴わない善意は害をもたらすという教訓を、実際に起きた同様の出来事から引いて説く本生話。

コーサラではなくダッキナーギリの少年に関わる類似の出来事に結びつけて語られた、猿たちが七日間庭に水をやるよう頼まれる、同じ本生話の異伝。

A variant of the same Jātaka in which the monkeys are asked to water the garden for seven days, told in connection with a similar incident involving a boy in Dakkhiṇāgiri rather than Kosala.
