A discourse taught at Sāvatthi that presents an extended allegory of a man beset by four venomous snakes, five murderous foes, an armed housebreaker, an empty village, and marauders, before finally crossing a perilous flood to safety — each element standing for the elements, aggregates, craving, sense bases, and floods that bar the way from personal identity-view to final liberation.

එකම නාමය දරන උපමා සූත්‍රයට වඩා වෙනස් වූ, විෂ සහිත හෝ කුරිරු සර්පයන් සිව් වර්ගයක් ඔවුන් කෝපයට පත් වන වේගය හා ඔවුන්ගේ කෝපය පවතින කාලය අනුව වෙන් කරන ලද මිනිසුන් සිව් වර්ගයකට සමාන කරන දේශනාවකි; මෙම නාමය සම්බන්ධ නොවූ සංයුත්ත නිකායේ පරිච්ඡේදයකින්ද බෙදාගනී.
