사왓티의 대부호의 아들이었던 아라한 장로로, 결혼을 버리고 출가하였으며, 장로게에 따르면 전생에 위빳시 부처님께 공양을 올린 적이 있다.

An Arahant thera, son of a millionaire of Sāvatthi, who renounced marriage to enter the Order and, according to the Theragāthā, had made offerings to Vipassī Buddha in a past life.

Kusinārā와 Sāvatthi 사이에 있는 마을로, 부처님이 한때 방문해 머물렀던 곳이며, 전직 이발사 출신 비구의 부적절한 탁발을 둘러싼 논쟁이 벌어진 곳이자 훗날 부처님이 그곳의 낙뢰 사건에 대해 이야기한 곳이다.
