祭のために隠していた半ペニーの貯金を取りに遠くまで旅した、ウダヤ王から王国の半分を褒美として与えられ、後に苦行者となった、アーナンダの前世とされるバーラーナシーの貧しい男。

A poor man of Bārāṇasī who travelled far to retrieve a hidden halfpenny savings for a festival, was rewarded by King Udaya with half his kingdom, and later became an ascetic, identified as a previous birth of Ānanda.
