아누라다뿌라 북쪽의 주요 승원으로, 이전에 고행자들의 암자가 있던 자리에 왓따가마니 아바야 왕이 건립하였다. 그 승가는 훗날 마하위하라에서 분리되어 독자적인 종파를 형성했다.
