ရေဒဗေဒသုံးပုဒ်ကို သိကြောင်း ကြွားဝါသော မီးကိုးကွယ်သည့် ပုဏ္ဏားတစ်ဦးအား၊ ရေဒဂါထာများကို ရွတ်ဆိုရုံမျှဖြင့် အစစ်အမှန် ပုဏ္ဏား မဖြစ်နိုင်ကြောင်း ဗုဒ္ဓက မိန့်ကြားပြီး၊ ဗုဒ္ဓများသည် သွန်သင်ခြင်းအတွက် လုပ်အားခ လက်ခံခြင်းမရှိကြောင်း ဆိုကာ ငွေချေးအဖြစ် ပူဇော်သော အစားအစာကို ငြင်းဆန်ခဲ့သည့် သုတ်ဖြစ်သည်။

A discourse in which the Buddha tells a fire-worshipping brahmin who boasts of his knowledge of the three Vedas that mere recitation of Vedic verses does not make one a true brahmin, and then declines the meal offered as payment, saying the Buddhas accept no wages for teaching.
