වේද තුනෙහි දැනුම ගැන පුරසාරම් දොඩන ගිනි නමදින බ්‍රාහ්මණයෙකුට, වේද ගාථා පාඨනය කිරීම පමණින් සැබෑ බ්‍රාහ්මණයෙකු නොවන බව බුදුන් වහන්සේ පවසන අතර, බුදුවරු ඉගැන්වීම සඳහා කිසිදු වැටුපක් නොපිළිගන්නා බව කියමින් ගෙවීමක් ලෙස පිරිනැමූ ආහාරය ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කරන දේශනාවකි.

A discourse in which the Buddha tells a fire-worshipping brahmin who boasts of his knowledge of the three Vedas that mere recitation of Vedic verses does not make one a true brahmin, and then declines the meal offered as payment, saying the Buddhas accept no wages for teaching.
