사왓티에서 부처님이 이름에 걸맞게 불살생을 실천하도록 격려한 바라드와자 형제 중 하나로, 훗날 아라한이 되었다고 전해진다.

One of the Bhāradvāja brothers whom the Buddha, at Sāvatthi, encouraged to live up to his name by practising harmlessness, and who is said to have later become an Arahant.
