극심한 가뭄 속에서 속이 빈 나무 둥치를 이용해 동물들에게 물을 대준 은둔 수행자가 은혜를 느낀 동물들이 모아 온 과일로 보답받는다는 자타카로, 근면하고 성실한 비구를 칭송하기 위해 설해졌다

A Jātaka in which a hermit provides water for animals during a severe drought using a hollowed tree trunk, and is rewarded with fruit gathered by the grateful animals, told in praise of a diligent and wholehearted monk.

제철이 아닌 때에 망고를 열매 맺게 하는 마법 주문을 배운 바라문 청년이 스승의 정체에 대해 거짓말을 한 뒤 그 힘을 잃는다는 자타카로, 데바닷따가 부처님을 배척한 일과 관련하여 설해졌다
