ဒေဝဒတ်နှင့် ကောကာလိကတို့ လိုက်လံအားပေးမှုများကို ရရှိရန် အချင်းချင်း ချီးမွမ်းနေခဲ့ကြောင်း ဝေဠုဝန်၌ ဟောကြားခဲ့သော ဇာတ်လမ်း၊ တိရစ္ဆာန်အသေကောင်ကို စားနေသော ခွေးလေးနှင့် အကျိုးရှာ၍ ချော့မော့နေသော ကျီးတစ်ကောင်ဖြင့် ဥပမာပြထားပြီး နှစ်ကောင်စလုံးသည် ဒေဝဒတ်နှင့် ကောကာလိက၏ ရှေးဘဝများဖြစ်ကြသည်။

A Jātaka taught at Veḷuvana in reference to Devadatta and Kokālika, who flattered each other to gain followers, told through the story of a jackal eating a carcass whom a flattering crow hoped to profit from, the two being identified with Devadatta and Kokālika.
