마하목갈라나가 동료 비구를 훈계하는 것과 자기 성찰에 관해 설한 경으로, 부처님에 대한 언급이 전혀 없다는 점이 특이하며, 옛 스승들은 이를 비구 빠띠목카라고 불렀다.
