Āyura

Person

A minister of King Maddava of Bārāṇasī who, with his colleague Pukkusa, helped Senaka console the grieving king in the Paṇṇaka Jātaka, and who became Mahā Moggallāna in the present age.

Minister of Maddava, king of Bārāṇasī. When Maddava was grieved at the loss of his wife, Āyūra and his colleague Pukkusa helped the king’s counsellor Senaka to quench the king’s sorrow.

The story is told in the Paṇṇaka Jātaka (J.iii.337 ff).

In the present age Āyūra became Māhā-Moggallāna (J.iii.341).
