A discourse taught at Jetavana to the wanderer Vacchagotta on the futility of speculating about the origin of the world and of life, using the simile of a fire that, once extinguished, cannot be said to have gone anywhere.

The sutta is so called because the simile of a fire (aggi) is used. A blazing fire is visible, but once extinguished, no one can say where it has gone. M.i.483 f.
