Asanabodhiya
PersonAn arahant who, in Tissa Buddha’s time, planted and tended for five years the Asana tree that became that Buddha’s Bodhi tree, thereafter enjoying long ages among the devas and repeated births as a wheel-turning monarch and king.
An Arahant. In the time of Tissa Buddha he planted the Asana-tree, which was the Buddha’s Bodhi-tree, and tended it for five years. The Buddha was very pleased with him and foretold for him a glorious future.
For thirty world-cycles he dwelt among the devas; seventy-seven world-cycles ago he was a Cakkavatti named Daṇḍasena, and one world-cycle later he was seven times king under the name of Samantanemi.
Twenty-five world-cycles ago he was a khattiya, Puṇṇaka by name. Ap.i.110-11.
