Personတက္ကသီလာတွင် ပညာသင်ယူခဲ့ပြီး ဘာသာရေးဆိုင်ရာ တောင်းရမ်းစားရသူတစ်ဦးအဖြစ် ရဟန်းဝင်ခဲ့သော ဗာရာဏသီမြို့မှ ပုဏ္ဏားတစ်ဦးအဖြစ် ဗောဓိသတ်ဖြစ်၏။ နောင်တွင် မင်းကြီး၏ တောင်းဆိုချက်အရ နန်းတွင်း ဥယျာဉ်တွင် နေထိုင်ခဲ့သော်လည်း၊ ဖိအားပေးခံရသော်လည်း မည်သည့်အရာကိုမျှ မင်းကြီးထံ တောင်းခံခဲ့ခြင်း မရှိပါ။
The Bodhisatta. He came of a brahmin family of Bārāṇasī, studied at Takkasilā and later became a religious mendicant.
He lived in the royal garden at the king’s request, but would never ask the king for anything even when pressed to do so. J.iii.352 f.
