Avaruddhaka

베사바나를 십이 년간 섬긴 보답으로 훗날 아유왓다나 쿠마라라고 불리게 되는 소년을 받은 야차였으나, 소년이 죽기로 정해진 날 부처님이 보호하러 나타나는 바람에 뜻을 이루지 못하였다.

A yakkha. Having served Vessavaṇa for twelve years, he received, as his reward, permission to take the boy, who later became known as Āyuvaḍḍhana Kumāra. On the day destined for the boy’s death, Avaruddhaka, coming to claim his possession, found the Buddha and his disciples there, reciting texts and taking other measures to avert his death. Avaruddhaka had to step back twelve leagues to make room for his superiors and had eventually to go away without getting the boy. DhA.ii.237-8.
