Cūḷasumana

Person

Vị trưởng lão Sri Lanka thông thạo Tam Tạng, cách diễn giải của ông về cụm từ ‘giải thoát theo cả hai cách’ được xem là có thẩm quyền.

An elder of Sri Lanka, master of the Tipiṭaka and a well-known commentator. His explanation, given at Lohapāsāda, of the meaning of liberated in both ways (ubhatobhāgavimutta) is regarded as the most authoritative interpretation (DA.ii.514). The Visuddhimagga (p.364; see also Cūḷasumma) also mentions a Cūḷasumana, resident at Niṅkapoṇṇa-padhānaghara on Cittalapabbata. He had discarded desire, and therefore the thought arose in him that he was a saint.
