카시의 바라문에서 고행자가 된 보살과 그의 동료들이 바라나시 사람들로부터 음식을 공양받은 이야기로, 사왓티의 두 청년이 부처님과 승가에 공양하기 위해 모금을 조직한 일에 빗대어 설해진 자타카.

v.l. Dudda°, Dudada°.– Once the Bodhisatta was a brahmin of Kāsi and, after being educated in Takkasilā, became an ascetic in the Himavā. When he and his fellow ascetics visited Bārāṇasī for salt and seasoning, the people gathered together and gave them food. The story was told in reference to two young men who made a collection in Sāvatthi to feed the Buddha and his monks (J.ii.85 f).
