Gharaṇī

A woman lay disciple who had attained the third stage of awakening and offered to perform her own miracle, turning the earth to water, when the Buddha was about to display the Twin Miracle.

A woman lay-disciple of the Buddha. She had attained the Third Fruit of the Path and when the Buddha was about to perform the Twin Miracle, she offered to perform a miracle herself — to transform the earth into water and dive about in it like a water-bird. DhA.iii.209.

There was a Gharaṇī Stūpa near Suppāraka (Divy.47).
