構成員がヒマヴァタ山に住んでいたためこう名付けられた、閻浮提の異端の一派で、菩薩は凡夫ではないこと、外道でさえ五神通を得られること、個人は蘊とは別のものであることを主張した

A heretical sect in Jambudīpa (Mhv.v.12; Dpv.v.54).

They were so called because they lived on Mount Himavata (Rockhill, Life of Buddha, p.184).

They held that a Bodhisatta was not an ordinary mortal, that even a outsider (tīrthaka) could have the five higher knowledges (abhiññā), that the individual (puggala) is separate from the aggregates (khandhā). Ibid., 190.
