The river on whose bank stood the Upavattana sal grove of the Mallas of Kusinārā, where the Buddha passed away, identified with the Little Gandak.

A river, on the bank of which was the Upavattana Sālavana of the Mallā of Kusinārā, where the Buddha died (D.ii.137).

It is identified with the Little Gandak; it flows through the district of Gorakhpur, about eight miles west of Great Gandak, and falls into the Gogrā, (Sarayū). Law, Geography, 37.
