Illisa Jātaka
JātakaA Jātaka telling of a notoriously miserly man, told in reference to Mahā-Moggallāna’s conversion of a similarly stingy banker with whom the earlier miser is identified, and cited as an example of psychic power used to expand something small.
The story of Illisa. The Jātaka was related in reference to the conversion by Mahā-Moggallāna of the banker Maccharikosiya (q.v.) of Sakkhara. Illisa of the past is identified with Macchariyakosiya (J.i.345 ff).
The story is given as an example of psychic powers (iddhi) by means of which Moggallāna made a little thing increase manifold. Vism.ii.403.
