Janasandha

Person

A king of Bārāṇasī, father of Ādāsamukha, said to have won his people’s hearts through the four bases of kindness.

King of Bārāṇasī, father of Ādāsamukha. His servant was Gāmaṇicanda. For their story see the Gāmaṇicanda Jātaka (J.ii.297 ff ); Janasandha is also referred to as Dasaratha (e.g., p.299). He was called Janasandha because he won the hearts of men by four ways of kindness (catūhi saṅgahavatthūhi sandahanato). J.ii.299.
