PersonAn elder who, devotedly cared for by a laywoman as though her own son, tried to dissuade her from visiting the Buddha and even to prevent the teaching, fearing she would stop caring for him.
An elder. A certain woman ministered to him as though he were her son, but when she expressed her desire to see the Buddha, Kāḷa tried to dissuade her from doing so. One day she visited the Buddha without telling Kāḷa of her intention, and when he learnt where she had gone he hurried to the Buddha and tried to prevent him from teaching her, in case she should stop caring for him.
