Khanda

विपस्सी बुद्ध के प्रधान शिष्य, जो उनके सौतेले भाई थे; बुद्ध ने खेम के मृगवन में उन्हें और उनके मित्र तिस्स को अपना प्रथम उपदेश दिया।

The chief disciple of Vipassī Buddha (D.ii.11, 40; Bu.xx.28; J.i.41), whose step-brother he was. The Buddha taught his first discourse to Khanda and his friend Tissa, the chaplain’s son, in the Deer Park at Khema. Later, Khanda became the Buddha’s chief disciple Ekasaññaka (BuA.196; AA.i.80; DA.ii.416; see also 457), in a previous birth, once gave alms to Khanda. Ap.i.121.
