An Arahant sent as missionary to the Himalayan region after the Third Council, where he and four companions taught the Dhamma and are said to have converted five kingdoms and led vast numbers to Stream-winning.

An Arahant. He went, after the Third Council, as teacher to the Himavā country (Mhv.xii.6), accompanied by four others: Kassapagotta, Durabhissara, Sahadeva, and Mūlakadeva.¹ Majjhima taught the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta and eight hundred million persons became Stream-winners. The five elders, separately, converted five kingdoms, and each of them ordained one hundred thousand persons. Mhv.xii.41 ff.
