Mallaka

An elder who developed a meditative sign from the sight of a ploughed field, cultivated the five absorptions, and attained Arahantship through insight.

An elder. As he stood one day looking at a ploughed field a sign arose in him of the size of the field. He enlarged it, induced the five absorptions (jhāna), and, developing insight, became an Arahant (Vism.123).

He is mentioned as consulting Dīghabhāṇaka Abhaya on some problem connected with absorption (jhāna). Vism.265 f.
