Padhānika Tissa

Person

A monk who, having gone to meditate in the forest with five hundred others and urged them to be diligent, himself spent the night asleep; when his deceit was discovered, the teacher told the Akālarāvi Kukkuṭa Jātaka, identifying him with the cock of that story.

He went with five hundred others to meditate in the forest, and, having instructed his fellows to apply themselves diligently to meditation, he himself spent the night in sleep. When the others discovered his deceit, they complained to the teacher, who related the Akālarāvi Kukkuṭa Jātaka (q.v.), identifying Tissa with the cock of that story. DhA.iii.142 ff.
