불제자들이 어려움에 처했을 때 불러야 할 주요 야차 가운데 하나로, 마하사마야경 설법 때도 참석했다고 전해진다. 붓다고사는 그가 간답바였다고 말한다.

One of the chief yakkhas to be invoked by the Buddha’s followers in time of need (D.iii.204). He is also mentioned in the Mahāsamaya Sutta (D.ii.258).

Buddhaghosa says (DA.ii.688) that Panāda was a Gandhabba.
