Puṅkhagāma

A village in the Dakkhiṇadesa of Sri Lanka where Mānābharaṇa once lived under another name and where Parakkamabāhu I was born, who later erected a towering monument on the site of his birth-house.

A village in the Dakkhiṇadesa of Sri Lanka, where Mānābharaṇa lived under the name of Virabāhu (Cv.lxi.26) and where Parakkamabāhu I was born (Ibid., lxxii.18). Parakkamabāhu subsequently erected there the Sūtigharacetiya, one hundred and eighty feet high, on the site of the house in which he was born. Ibid., lxxix.61.
