Sāgara4

Person

A king of ancient times named among those whose great acts of giving could not raise them beyond the sensual-sphere heavens, possibly the same king said elsewhere to have become a powerful deity after death.

A king of long ago, mentioned in a list of persons, who, though they held great almsgivings, could not attain beyond the sensual worlds (kāmāvacara) (J.vi.99). It is probably the same king that is mentioned in the Bhūridatta Jātaka (J.vi.203) as having become a mahesakkha deva after death.
