Sāgaradeva
Personएक राजा जिसके बारे में कहा जाता है कि उसने समुद्र खोदा था, जो स्पष्टतः सागर (Sāgara) के समान ही है, जिसके क्रोध ने उसे पृथ्वी को इतना गहरा खोदने पर विवश किया कि वह समुद्र को धारण करने लगी, और इसी से महासागर का नाम सागर पड़ा।
A king who dug the ocean (DA.i.91; MA.ii.689).
The reference is evidently to Sāgara (q.v.), who, through anger, caused the earth to be excavated, and the earth came thus to have the ocean as her bosom.
From this the ocean has come to be called Sāgara. Mahābhārata xii.29.
