Sutta

A discourse contrasting the five dangers that befall the unvirtuous with the five benefits enjoyed by the virtuous, in this life and after death.

There are five dangers for one who is unvirtuous. What five? Loss of wealth through negligence; a bad reputation spreads about him; he has no confidence on entering any assembly; he dies confused; after death on the break up of the body he is reborn a realm of misery.

There are five benefits for one who is virtuous. What five? His wealth increases through diligence; a good reputation spreads about him; he is confident on entering any assembly; he dies unconfused; after death, on the break up of the body, he goes to a fortunate destination, to heaven. A.iii.252.
