クトゥンビヤプッタ・ティッサとして知られる長老で、莫大な財産を捨てて森林生活を選び、義理の姉妹に雇われた暴漢が殺しに来たとき、逃げないことを証明するため自ら大腿骨を折り、その痛みに耐えることで一夜のうちに阿羅漢果を得た。

A Thera of Sāvatthi, better known as Kuṭumbiyaputta-Tissa. He renounced four hundred million of wealth and became a monk dwelling in the forest. His younger brother’s wife sent five hundred ruffians to kill him. He begged them to spare his life for one night and broke his thigh-bone with a stone as proof that he would not attempt to escape. During the night he overcame his pain and, dwelling on his virtues, became an Arahant.⁵¹
