Uggaha Meṇḍakanattā

หลานชายของเศรษฐีเมณฑกะ ผู้อาศัยอยู่ในภัททิยะ ผู้กราบทูลนิมนต์พระพุทธเจ้าฉันภัตตาหารและขอให้ทรงแสดงธรรมแก่ธิดาของตน อันเป็นที่มาของอุคคหสูตร

The grandson of the banker Meṇḍaka; he lived in Bhaddiya. Once when the Buddha was staying in the Jātiyāvana at Bhaddiya, Uggaha invited him and three monks to a meal at his house. At the conclusion of the meal, he asked the Buddha to speak a few words of advice to his daughters who were about to be married. The Buddha taught them the Uggaha Sutta (A.iii.36 ff).

The Commentary says that their nuptials were already in progress at the time of the Buddha’s visit (AA.ii.597).
