A district and town of Kosala where Pasenadi, visiting on business, called on the Buddha and heard the Kaṇṇakatthala Sutta, and where the wanderer Acela-Kassapa also came to see the Buddha as recorded in the Mahāsīhanāda Sutta.
A district and a town in Kosala. Once when the Buddha was staying at the Deer Park in Kaṇṇakatthala in the neighbourhood of the city, Pasenadi, who happened to be at Ujuññā on business, visited the Buddha. On this occasion was taught the Kaṇṇakatthala Sutta (M.ii.125 ff; MA.ii.757).
It was here too that the Nigaṇṭha Acela-Kassapa came to see the Buddha. This visit is recorded in the Mahāsīhanāda Sutta. D.i.161 ff.
