Upasamā
PersonAn Arahant nun of a Sakyan family of Kapilavatthu who served as a lady of the Bodhisatta’s court before renouncing the world with Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī, gaining insight when admonished by a ray of the Buddha’s glory.
She was born in a Sakyan family in Kapilavatthu and became a lady of the Bodhisatta's court. Later, in the company of Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī, she renounced the world and entered the Order.
One day, while she was meditating, the Buddha sent forth a ray of glory and admonished her. She, thereupon, developed insight and became an Arahant. Thig.v.10; ThigA.12f
