Upasīva-māṇava Pucchā
SuttaThe sixth section of the Pārāyana chapter in the Suttanipāta, recording the questions Upasīva put to the Buddha, including how the floods may be crossed, and the Buddha’s answers.
The sixth sutta of the Parāyanavagga of the Suttanipāta. It contains the questions asked of the Buddha by Upasīva and the answers thereto (Sn.vv.1069-76). One of Upasīva’s questions was as to how the floods (ogha) may be crossed.
The Commentary tells us that he was one who had gained the formless jhāna on nothingness (ākiñcaññāyatanalābhī). SnA.ii.593 f; see also Cūḷa-Niddesa, p.101.
