एक उपासिका जिसे थेरगाथा की दो गाथाओं में, जो आनन्द को अभिहित हैं, अपनी सुंदरता के दंभ के लिए फटकारा गया, यद्यपि कुछ कहते हैं कि ये गाथाएँ वास्तव में अम्बपाली पर मोहित लोगों को संबोधित थीं।

In the Theragāthā two verses (Thag.vv.1020-1) are attributed to Ānanda, as having been spoken by him in admonition to a female lay disciple named Uttarā, who was filled with the idea of her own beauty. Some say, however, that these verses were spoken in admonition to those who lost their heads at the sight of Ambapāli. ThagA.ii.129.
