Vassa

Other

バンニャと組んでウッカラーのヴァッサバンニャーと称された集団で、因果と実在を否定しながらも仏陀の教えの一部を受け入れた。

Mentioned with Bhañña in the compound Vassabhaññā, as dwellers of Ukkalā and as “denying cause, consequence and reality.”

There were certain aspects of the Buddha’s teaching that even they would accept (e.g., S.iii.73; A.ii.31; M.iii.78).

Buddhaghosa explains (AA.ii.497; MA.ii.894) Vassabhañña as “Vasso ca Bhañño cāti dve janā.”
