Veḷudvāreyya Sutta

Sutta

The brahmins and householders of Veḷudvāra visit the Buddha when he comes to their village and ask for a teaching that will be profitable to them. The Buddha teaches them a disquisition on the Dhamma (dhammapariyāya) for their welfare.

A noble disciple reflects that being deprived of life would be displeasing, so he abstains from taking life. For the same reason, he abstains from taking what is not given, from sexual misconduct, from slander, from harsh speech, and from frivolous talk.

He also has faith in the Buddha, Dhamma, and Saṅgha. S.v.352 f.
