Veḷukaṇṭa

아완티의 도시로 난다 쿠마풋타의 출생지이며, 마하목갈라나와 사리불이 한때 난다마따의 대접을 받은 곳이다. 성벽 주변에 심어진 빽빽한 대나무에서 이름이 유래했다고 한다.

Mahā-Moggallāna and Sāriputta visited the place in the course of a journey in Dakkhiṇāgiri and were entertained by Nandamātā (A.iv.62 f). See Veḷukaṇḍakī.
Buddhaghosa says (AA.ii.717; SNA.i.370) that the city was so called because bamboos were thickly planted for protection round the walls and fortifications.
