Person一部の文脈では、冥界から最高天までといった表現に見られるように、冥界の主ヤマに由来すると思われる語。
In some contexts, Yāmā seems to have been derived from Yama, king of the underworld — e.g. in such expressions as “Yāmato yāva Akaniṭṭhaṃ” (From the underworld to the highest heaven). KhA.166.
