難破の後に樹皮の衣をまとったことからダールチーリヤと呼ばれた阿羅漢で、天神の助言により一夜でサーヴァッティーへ赴き、「見るものにおいてはただ見るのみ」という仏陀の教えを聞いて悟りを開いた。
