새가 전혀 없는 나라에 육지를 찾아주는 신기한 물건으로 귀히 여겨지는 까마귀를 처음 들여온 상인들에 관한 자타카로, 이후 훌륭한 공작을 들여오자 열 배의 값을 받으며 까마귀를 완전히 압도해버려 까마귀는 쓰레기 더미에 방치되고 마는데, 부처님이 세상에 나타나시자 경쟁 스승들이 이전의 모든 영광을 어떻게 잃었는지 보여주기 위해 설해졌다.

A Jātaka about merchants who bring first a crow, prized as a land-finding novelty in a country with no birds of its own, and later a magnificent peacock which fetches ten times the price and eclipses the crow entirely, leaving it neglected on a rubbish heap, told to illustrate how rival teachers lost all their former glory once the Buddha appeared in the world.
