아내가 임신한 동안 두 번이나 출가를 시도했다가 아내가 죽은 뒤에야 마침내 성공한 가난한 남자에 관한 자타카로, 가족의 굴레에서 벗어난 것을 기뻐한다는 이야기이며, 부처님이 정욕의 속박을 붙잡힌 도적 무리를 묶은 사슬에 비유하실 때 설해졌다.
