本生故事，讲树神跋陀萨罗恳求国王勿砍伐自己所栖的娑罗树，未果后又求分段砍伐以免波及邻树；此事对应佛陀出面阻止毗琉璃王毁灭释迦族。

A birth story of a tree deity who pleaded with a king not to fell the sāla tree that was his home and, failing that, asked that it be cut piecemeal to spare its neighbors, told in connection with the Buddha’s intervention on behalf of the Sākyans.
