本生故事，講樹神跋陀薩羅懇求國王勿砍伐自己所棲的娑羅樹，未果後又求分段砍伐以免波及鄰樹；此事對應佛陀出面阻止毗琉璃王毀滅釋迦族。

A birth story of a tree deity who pleaded with a king not to fell the sāla tree that was his home and, failing that, asked that it be cut piecemeal to spare its neighbors, told in connection with the Buddha’s intervention on behalf of the Sākyans.
