くしゃみの後に「長生きを」と祝福する習慣の由来を説くジャータカで、くしゃみをして祝福されない者を食らうと誓った人食い鬼から父を救った商人の息子の物語であり、仏陀がこの迷信的な習慣に従うことを比丘に禁じた際に説かれた

A birth-story explaining the origin of saying ‘long life’ after a sneeze, in which a trader’s son saves his father from a man-eating yakkha bound by a vow to devour anyone who sneezes unanswered, told when the Buddha forbade monks from following the same superstitious custom.
